About The Haystack

At The Haystack, C&EN editor Lisa Jarvis weeds through pharma’s molecular mountain to pluck out the drug developments worth noting. Coverage spans science and business context for drug industry news; spotlights on academic and industry conferences; interview outtakes and updates from drug discovery features in C&EN’s pages; and the employment prospects for chemists working in life sciences.

Lisa Jarvis was born into a family boasting some of Chicago’s fiercest White Sox fans. She got her B.A. from Bard College, and did a brief stint at Northwestern University’s graduate program in chemistry before choosing writing over basement lab life. As the sole occupant of C&EN’s unofficial Brooklyn Bureau, she covers biotech, pharma, and fine chemicals.
