Chemical Tanker Pirated

pirates.jpgSome updates in piracy news: A chemical tanker was hijacked by pirates in the Gulf of Aden on Monday, according to the International Maritime Bureau. IMB is not releasing any details about the attack or the ship's contents. In the first six months of this year, IMB received 144 reports of actual or attempted pirate attacks. The interaction between the military and pirates in general is becoming increasingly heated. In other action in the region, two foreign nationals, believed to be Somali pirates, were shot and killed in self defense by the Royal Navy during a routine maritime security operation on Tuesday, according to the Royal Navy. The Royal Navy was approaching the ship—which the pair was on—because it was believed to have been involved in a pirate attack earlier that day. These operations are meant to curb the large number of pirate assaults in the region.
