@Wavefunction thanks for the NYTimes link. Hedy Lamarr is one of my favorite classic-era stars. Let's not forget the tale of one Christopher Kutcher, a biochemical engineering major at the University of Iowa. If Wikipedia is to be believed, he was not as good a student as Natalie.

On the other hand I am still not sure what’s a greater loss for humanity- losing an Academy Award winning actress or losing a potentially world-class chemist. Actually I am kidding, I am quite sure.
